When we think of Broccoli, you think of recipes which are Western like Roasted Broccoli, Broccoli Cheddar Soup or Chinese/Thai recipes. These days Broccoli is quite popular in India and are available in Supermarkets. Then we have to give some Indian recipes a try, shouldn't we? My friend Nachal gave me this idea years ago and I have made this quite often. Hope you try this unusual combo and enjoy it as much as we do.

1. Soak the toor dal for a couple of hours.

4. Steam the balls in an idli plate or steamer for 10-12 minutes.
5. Crumble the pulse balls and keep aside.
6. Separate the broccoli florets and make little pieces. Try and pull them to make them small rather than cut it.
7. Heat oil in a pan and add the broccoli. Cook till it is well done. Splash a tbsp or so of water if needed.
8. Add the crumbled dal to this and some salt. Mix well.
Enjoy as a side dish for rice with Sambar/Rasam. It even makes a great side dish for Roti.
