Dahi Nariyal wali Bhindi - Name sounds very fancy. It is a Okra dish made with Yogurt and coconut. I was looking for something new to try and found this recipe in Puja's website. She has a lot of amazing recipes. You will see me making a few more of hers :-) You can check the original recipes and amazing photos in this link.
I have adjusted the spices a little bit to suit our family. Stuck to the basic recipe. It tasted really good. It kind of reminded us of Mor Kozhambu with the yogurt, coconut and okra
Ingredients
Okra 25-30 small ones
Onion 1
Tomato 1
Coconut 1/2 cup
Cashew 2 tbsp
Mustard 1/2 tsp
Split Urad dal 1 tsp
Jeera 1 tsp
Red Chillies 2
Curry Leaves Few
Chilli powder 1/2 tsp (add more for spicy dish)
Turmeric 1/2 tsp
Yogurt 1/3 cup
Method of Preparation
1. Wash and dry the okra. Cut the okra into long pieces.
2. Heat a couple of tbsp of oil in a pan, add the cut okra and cook till it is done. I cooked it just like i will for a stir fry.
3. Grind the coconut and cashews with little water and keep aside
4. Heat 1 tbsp of oil another pan. Add the mustard seeds. When it sputters, add the urad dal.
5. When dal starts to brown, add jeera, red chillies and curry leaves.
6. When it sizzles, add the onions and saute till it starts to brown.
7. Add the tomato, chilli powder, turmeric powder and salt.
8. Cook till the tomatoes are almost done. Add the ground paste and saute till it all comes together.
9. Mix the yogurt with 1 cup of water and add the pan. Also add the cooked okra. Bring it to a boil and simmer for few minutes.
