I found the recipe of this dal in Aarthi's Yummy Tummy. Though I make moong dal often and with almost the same set of ingredients, this one tasted different. I always feel every change in the ingredient and recipe changes the taste drastically. Check out her site for a lot of yummy recipes.
Ingredients
Moong Dal 1 cup
Green Chilli 1 slit
Ginger 1 inch piece chopped
Garlic 3 pods
Curry Leaves few
Turmeric Powder 1/2 tsp
Chilli Powder 1 tsp
Tamarind Paste 1/2 tsp
Oil and Salt to taste
Mustard 1 tsp
Jeera 1 tsp
Red Chilli 1
Curry Leaves few for tempering
Method of Preparation
1. Wash Dal and soak for 15 minutes.
2. Heat a pan and the dal along with 4 cups of water, green chillies, ginger, garlic, curry leaves, turmeric and chilli powder.
3. Simmer for 20-25 minutes till the dal is cooked well. I did not allow the dal to get mushy. Left it when there was still a little bite to it.
4. Add tamarind paste and salt. Simmer for a few more minutes.
5. In another pan, heat a little oil. Add the mustard. When it sputters, add the jeera, chilli and curry leaves.
6. When it all sizzles, add to the dal mix.
Enjoy with roti or rice.
