Garlic Eyeballs - Pizza Dough Balls with Olives

Halloween has come and gone. We had a fun celebration this year. Yes Yes. I know there are people asking why celebrate a pagan festival, why celebrate vampires, what has it got to do with Indians etc. Let me put all your thoughts to rest. We just had loads of fun dressing up, partying with friends, making and eating loads of food. My little one was dressed up as Spiderman for one and Mr. Bump for another. I was a witch in one and a robber in another. My H had fun as Wally (Where's Wally).

I made these eyeballs for the party and the kids (and adults) loved it. Made me so happy. Design from here

Ingredients

Bread Flour (or All Purpose Flour) 3 cups
Warm Milk 11/2 cups (as required)
Salt 1 tsp
Sugar 1 tbsp
Fast Acting Instant Yeast 1 pkt (7 gm each 2 1/4 tsp)

Olives about 25-30

To Brush
Butter or Olive Oil few tbsp
Garlic Powder 1 tsp
Salt 1/2 tsp
Dried Herbs 1/2 tsp (optional)

Method of Preparation

1. Take flour in a big bowl. Add yeast, salt, sugar and oil. Mix well.

2. Add milk a little at a time and mix well till you get a spongy dough.

3. Apply a little oil on top. Cover the bowl with a damp cloth and rest for about an hour till the dough raises to atleast double.

4. Punch out the air and knead quickly.

5. Divide into 25 balls. Roll them into rounds. Press a hole in the center and add the olive to it. Arrange on a baking sheet.

6. Preheat oven to 220 C.

7. Bake for 6-7 minutes. Take out and make sure that the olives are pressed in. They were starting to pop out when I baked.

8. In the meanwhile melt butter or use olive oil. Add garlic powder, salt and herbs. Mix well.

9. Brush the dough balls with the garlic butter and bake again for another 6-7 min.

10. Optionally brush with more garlic butter (oil) when it comes out. Serve with a dip of choice.

  1. Roshni, when I was teaching at a private school here, we made cards, decorations, painting etc for every festival whether it was a christian, muslim or indian festival. This made the children more aware of the cultures of other people and at the same time respect for each other grew. So there is no harm in celebrating festivals that are not indian but as long as we teach our children not to forget our tradition. Garlic eyeballs looks yum. Next time just an idea, drizzle some tomato sauce to resemble those red veins of the real scary eyeballs :)
