Vegan Black Beans, Sweet Potato and Oats Burger - Super Healthy Recipe

Burger has a very bad reputation. Whenever someone thinks of Burger, the thing that comes to most of our minds is the fast food restaurant. That does not make a healthy burger, does it. But it does not have to be like that. Burger could be a super healthy meal if you take the effort to do it. This burger is loaded with Veggies, beans and oats. The flavour and texture of this burger is just amazing.

I have used some Homemade Rolls for these burgers. The roll has whole wheat flour, oats and flax seeds. To make it even better, it is topped with seeds like Sunflower seeds, white sesame seeds and black sesame seeds. Check out the recipe for this roll here. If this is not one healthy burger, then what is?

Ingredients (Makes 8 portions)

Black Beans 1 can drained
Sweet Potato 1 big one
Onions 1
Garlic 4 pods
Oats 1/2 cup
Turmeric Powder 1/2 tsp
Chilli Powder 1 tsp
Garam Masala 1/2 tsp
Salt about 1 tsp (to taste)
Olive Oil 1 tsp + 2 tbsp to fry

Method of Preparation

1. Heat a little oil in a pan. Add chopped onions and garlic. Saute till it becomes translucent.

2. Peal and chop the sweet potatoes. Add to the pan. Saute for a few minutes.

3. Add a splash of water to help it cook.

4. Once cooked, switch off. Let it cool and pulse in a food processor or blender or just use a potato masher. Leave some chunky bits if you like.

5. Add black beans to this. Give it a gentle mash as well.

6. Add the oats. I have used porridge oats here. If you are using steel cut oats, you may have to pulse it a little.

7. Add the spices like turmeric powder, chilli powder and garam masala along with some salt. You can substitute this with curry powder and cayenne pepper if you want.

8. Divide it into 8 portions. Roll into a ball and then flatten it.

9. Heat 1/2 tbsp of oil in a non stick pan. Place 4 patties and cook till that side is charred.

10. Flip and cook other side with 1/2 tbsp of oil. Transfer to a plate.

11. Repeat for the other 4 patties.

To Serve (use what ever you fancy)
